FutureB-
The Saints fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. The Saints ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Slater reach is exactly the players who went right after him. However the rest shakes out, Henderson at that price is a win they earned.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In the 14th pick they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at pick No. 45 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick71
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the running back. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick93
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
No drama and no debate, Jalen Milroe went about where he belonged in slot 93. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 10, where Jared Wilson graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117
Rnd4
Lathan Ransom
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Lathan Ransom at pick 117 is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
A big swing on Jackson Slater at No. 131, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick184
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
Value with a capital V on Ajani Cornelius in the 184th overall pick, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick232
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Cam Jackson at Round 7, Pick 16, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
The board had cheaper options than Jaylin Smith at the 248th pick, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick254
Rnd7
Sam Brown Jr.
A tidy little value on Sam Brown Jr. in pick No. 254, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
