Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Saints worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+. There is reaching, and then there is Antwaun Powell-Ryland at slot 117. The Saints jumped the board by 46 and dared it to prove them wrong. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Williams pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In pick 14 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
A clean, defensible pick in the 40th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jihaad Campbell. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick45
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
No edge and no loss on Aireontae Ersery in slot 45; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick71
Rnd3
Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers at pick No. 71 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick93
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick112
Rnd4
Savion Williams
They robbed the room for Savion Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A wild overpay on Antwaun Powell-Ryland in Round 4, Pick 15, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick131
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
A conviction pick on Malachi Moore at the 131st overall pick that the board grades a round light. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick184
Rnd6
Jaydon Blue
Jaydon Blue at slot 184 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick232
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
A straight-up fair deal on Bilhal Kone at the 232nd pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick248
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
A slide stopped in No. 248, with Cam Jackson worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick254
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
A tidy bit of business in the Round 7 slot, where Ja'Corey Brooks graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
