Draft Grade — Saints
Overall

FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Saints: B. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Saints started one anyway for Will Howard, 30 picks ahead of schedule. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
On value alone, Mafah makes the weekend a net positive. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at the 40th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick45
Rnd2
Nic Scourton
A straight-up fair deal on Nic Scourton at the 45th pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick71
Rnd3
Will Howard
They talked themselves into Will Howard at slot 71, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Pick93
Rnd3
Charles Grant
They did well to land Charles Grant in pick No. 93, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick112
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
They took Joshua Farmer at par in No. 112, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick117
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke in the 117th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jackson Slater this early at the Round 4 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick184
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at the 184th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick248
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah in slot 248 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick254
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
No drama and no debate, LaJohntay Wester went about where he belonged in No. 254. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
