Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC FutureB-
The Saints finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-.

The Saints spent the pick that matters most on Jaxson Dart, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

They are betting Dart proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Getting Mukuba where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Jaxson Dart
In slot 16 they get a franchise quarterback, a steep price for the projection.
Pick40 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in Round 2, Pick 8 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins is a better player than No. 71 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick81 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Pick93 Rnd3 Chris Paul Jr.
Value with a capital V on Chris Paul Jr. in the 93rd overall pick, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick112 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Andrew Mukuba in the 112th pick, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick115 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
A big swing on Rylie Mills at pick 115, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick184 Rnd6 Ajani Cornelius
A quiet steal in pick No. 184: Ajani Cornelius for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick248 Rnd7 Theo Wease Jr.
No drama and no debate, Theo Wease Jr. went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 32. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick254 Rnd7 John Williams
They liked John Williams enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 254. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
