Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A passer of the future in Sanders, and a B, for the Saints.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Shedeur Sanders is the Saints' quarterback, full stop. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

They banked enough surplus on Johnson to cover a lot of smaller sins. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Shedeur Sanders
In the 11th pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Shavon Revel Jr.
Shavon Revel Jr. in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick71 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
A clean, defensible pick in No. 71 with a little surplus value in Donovan Jackson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in pick 75 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick93 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in pick No. 93 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick112 Rnd4 Savion Williams
Circle this one: Savion Williams at Round 4, Pick 10 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick131 Rnd4 Kobe King
They did well to land Kobe King in the 131st overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick184 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylen Reed at slot 184, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick248 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa slid further than he should have, and pick No. 248 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick254 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Teddye Buchanan. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
