Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureC+
The Vikings lost the trade table, and the D tells the story.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Vikings would have aced it. Deven Eastern at No. 234 is 47 spots clear of where he belonged. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on Golday to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick No. 18 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that.
Pick31 Rnd1 Kenyon Sadiq
In pick 31 they get a red-zone target to build around at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
The board had Dillon Thieneman higher than No. 49, and the safety fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick82 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Slaughter reach the 82nd pick and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick95 Rnd3 Emmett Johnson
They did well to land Emmett Johnson in slot 95, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick97 Rnd3 Jake Golday
Taking Jake Golday in the 97th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson slipping to slot 161 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick194 Rnd6 Cole Payton
Value said wait; Cole Payton in Round 6, Pick 15 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick234 Rnd7 Deven Eastern
Deven Eastern at the 234th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick240 Rnd7 Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson at pick No. 240 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
