Cloud9blazers DRAFTING FOR THEVikings
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Vikings checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Vikings would have aced it. Sam Huard at pick 231 is 114 spots clear of where he belonged.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Landing Robinson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Ryan Coleman-Williams
In pick 30 they get a weapon on the perimeter, a steep price for the projection.
Pick62
Rnd2
Greg Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Greg Johnson at Round 2, Pick 30, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick78
Rnd3
Peyton Bowen
They paid sticker price for Peyton Bowen in slot 78, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94
Rnd3
Terry Moore
Terry Moore slid further than he should have, and No. 94 is lovely value for the safety. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick159
Rnd5
Kam Robinson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kam Robinson at pick No. 159. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick165
Rnd5
Lawson Luckie
They reached a country mile for Lawson Luckie at the 165th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick168
Rnd5
Eli Bowen
Eli Bowen at Round 5, Pick 30 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick188
Rnd6
Drew Bobo
A quiet steal in the 188th overall pick: Drew Bobo for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick200
Rnd6
Darius Taylor
Darius Taylor at slot 200 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick212
Rnd6
Niki Prongos
They talked themselves into Niki Prongos at No. 212, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick231
Rnd7
Sam Huard
A big swing on Sam Huard at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
