The Lions kept it disciplined and banked a B. The Jalen McLeod pick is the one that will follow the Lions into the fall. They took him 87 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
However the rest shakes out, Williams at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in slot 28 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick48
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
They let Jihaad Campbell come to them and pounced at the 48th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick60
Rnd2
Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe at the Round 2 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick101
Rnd3
Jalen McLeod
A real head-scratcher, Jalen McLeod in pick No. 101 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick198
Rnd6
Clay Webb
Clay Webb in No. 198 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227
Rnd7
Cooper Mays
They reached a country mile for Cooper Mays at the 227th pick, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick230
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick246
Rnd7
Kyle Williams
Steal is underselling it; Kyle Williams at Round 7, Pick 28 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
