Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
The Vikings kept it disciplined and banked a B.

Of all the ways to open, the Vikings chose the head-scratcher, spending the 130th pick on Khyree Jackson with tight end and interior defensive lineman still wide open. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Jackson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

They will need Monheim to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. More want than need.
Pick35 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau at pick 35 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick42 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy in Round 2, Pick 10 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick71 Rnd3 Rod Moore
By-the-book stuff, Rod Moore at the 71st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick108 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
A straight-up fair deal on Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick130 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Khyree Jackson adds a cornerback and leaves tight end and interior defensive lineman untouched.
Pick148 Rnd5 Sincere Haynesworth
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sincere Haynesworth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim at slot 160 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick165 Rnd5 Theo Wease Jr.
A premium they did not need to pay, Theo Wease Jr. a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick179 Rnd6 Jasheen Davis
Jasheen Davis in the Round 6 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick230 Rnd7 Cody Schrader
No edge and no loss on Cody Schrader in the 230th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
