Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesF FutureB+
The Steelers let Judkins fall into their laps, and walked away with a D.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Quinshon Judkins got past him. The Steelers do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 161. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

Reaching for Sheppard left real value on the table behind him. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In the 32nd overall pick they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52 Rnd2 Xavier Restrepo
They did well to land Xavier Restrepo in the 52nd pick, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick57 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick83 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
They went early on Maxwell Hairston in pick 83, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick121 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
You do not let a safety like Malachi Moore reach No. 121 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick161 Rnd5 Quinshon Judkins
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Quinshon Judkins in pick No. 161, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick162 Rnd5 Jake Majors
Jake Majors in Round 5, Pick 25 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick223 Rnd7 Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton at slot 223 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick229 Rnd7 Bhayshul Tuten
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 229 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick245 Rnd7 Will Sheppard
They talked themselves into Will Sheppard at the 245th pick, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
