Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Saints, and a B- to prove it. The one they had to fix is still broken. The Saints left cornerback untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.
Landing Banks that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Klubnik reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The back end got a real overhaul.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In pick No. 8 they get a rangy last line of defense. Need was not the driver here.
Pick42
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
They read the board right and Caleb Banks was the payoff at pick 42. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick73
Rnd3
Cade Klubnik
A conviction pick on Cade Klubnik at Round 3, Pick 9 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick132
Rnd4
Skyler Gill-Howard
They paid sticker price for Skyler Gill-Howard in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick136
Rnd4
Ted Hurst
They paid a round early for Ted Hurst in slot 136, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
