Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Vikings let Johnson fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Dalton Johnson at slot 235 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Kenyon Sadiq
In pick 18 they get a mismatch in the passing game. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
They paid sticker price for D'Angelo Ponds in the 49th pick, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick82 Rnd3 Garrett Nussmeier
Garrett Nussmeier in slot 82 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick97 Rnd3 Sam Hecht
A reasonable price with a little left over, Sam Hecht in No. 97. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick163 Rnd5 CJ Daniels
You do not let a wide receiver like CJ Daniels reach the 163rd overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick196 Rnd6 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
They will replay Ar'maj Reed-Adams at Round 6, Pick 15 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick234 Rnd7 Dalton Johnson
The board fumbled Dalton Johnson all the way to pick No. 234, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick235 Rnd7 Dalton Johnson
Somehow Dalton Johnson was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick244 Rnd7 Chase Roberts
Chase Roberts at pick No. 244 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
