Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Panthers won the night they stopped Gilliam from sliding. Grade: B-.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Xavier Gilliam, the No. 69 name on the board, stolen at the 121st overall pick. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

The Smith reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 Austin Siereveld
In pick 19 they get a cornerstone up front, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Anthony Smith
They reached a country mile for Anthony Smith at the 51st pick, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick83 Rnd3 Nick Marsh
Nick Marsh at pick No. 83 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick121 Rnd4 Xavier Gilliam
Xavier Gilliam at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick132 Rnd4 Peyton Bowen
You do not let a safety like Peyton Bowen reach slot 132 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick199 Rnd6 Demond Williams Jr.
They will replay Demond Williams Jr. at the 199th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Pick240 Rnd7 Jacob Ponton
They barely believed it either: Jacob Ponton still on the board at Round 7, Pick 19. It fills a real need, too.
