Larceny in slot 221 lands the Dolphins a B, Ford and all. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Dolphins, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Ford falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick47
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
A reach on Kingsley Suamataia in No. 47; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick70
Rnd3
Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice at the 70th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick71
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus at Round 3, Pick 7 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick78
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick99
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in the 99th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in pick No. 106; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick125
Rnd4
Josh Newton
They paid sticker price for Josh Newton in slot 125, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick126
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cedric Gray. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick168
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
They did well to land Luke McCaffrey in Round 5, Pick 32, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick183
Rnd6
Layden Robinson
A slide stopped in the 183rd pick, with Layden Robinson worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jaylan Ford
You do not let a linebacker like Jaylan Ford reach No. 221 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick227
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
Tyler Owens at pick 227 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick242
Rnd7
Sheridan Jones
A quiet steal in the 242nd overall pick: Sheridan Jones for less than the market said. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
