FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Dolphins: B-. The Dolphins bet big and early on Will Kacmarek, 229 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Rodriguez at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Kadyn Proctor
In No. 11 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick30
Rnd1
Chris Johnson
In slot 30 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. More want than need.
Pick43
Rnd2
Chris Bell
Chris Bell at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
The board fumbled Jacob Rodriguez all the way to the 75th pick, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick87
Rnd3
Caleb Douglas
Caleb Douglas at pick No. 87 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick90
Rnd3
Will Kacmarek
Will Kacmarek at Round 3, Pick 26 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick94
Rnd3
Skyler Bell
Nice patience on Skyler Bell, who had no business lasting to slot 94. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick151
Rnd5
CJ Daniels
Fair-plus on CJ Daniels, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick227
Rnd7
Eric McAlister
Eric McAlister in the 227th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick238
Rnd7
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon slid further than he should have, and No. 238 is lovely value for the cornerback. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick256
Rnd7
TJ Hall
They will replay TJ Hall at Round 7, Pick 40 for years; that is how good the value is. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
