Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C+
ValueC- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Commanders did enough to get by: C+.

The tape said wait; the Commanders did not. Ian Moore went at pick No. 40, a good 108 picks before the board was ready. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Umanmielen. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Hit on Colin Simmons and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Colin Simmons
A tidy little value on Colin Simmons in slot 8, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick40 Rnd2 Ian Moore
A wild overpay on Ian Moore in the 40th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick72 Rnd3 Marcus Neal Jr.
Marcus Neal Jr. in the 72nd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick110 Rnd4 Eugene Wilson III
A big swing on Eugene Wilson III at pick 110, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick145 Rnd5 Princewill Umanmielen
Taking Princewill Umanmielen in No. 145 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick188 Rnd6 Drake Lindsey
Drake Lindsey at pick No. 188 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick229 Rnd7 Braden Awls
You do not let a safety like Braden Awls reach slot 229 and blink. They did not. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
