Larceny in No. 229 lands the Buccaneers a B-, Coogan and all. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Buccaneers were there to profit. Pat Coogan, the No. 205 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 229.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Keldric Faulk
In No. 15 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
Joshua Josephs
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joshua Josephs. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick77
Rnd3
Elijah Sarratt
No drama and no debate, Elijah Sarratt went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 13. It fills a real need, too.
Pick116
Rnd4
Jalen Farmer
Jalen Farmer in the 116th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick155
Rnd5
CJ Daniels
Value with a capital V on CJ Daniels in slot 155, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick195
Rnd6
Travis Burke
Somehow Travis Burke was still sitting there in pick 195, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick229
Rnd7
Pat Coogan
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Pat Coogan in pick No. 229, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
