The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Murphy: B-. The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Grayson Murphy, the No. 174 name on the board, in No. 229. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Every board in the league had Travis lower, and that gap is the story. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 12th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
The board had cheaper options than Patrick Paul at the 34th overall pick, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick68
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at Round 3, Pick 4 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis at slot 104 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick105
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at pick No. 105 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Pick106
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
No drama and no debate, Matt Goncalves went about where he belonged in pick 106. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick107
Rnd4
Ray Davis
They took Ray Davis at par in No. 107, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick136
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
A premium they did not need to pay, Ben Sinnott a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick139
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
They liked Drake Nugent enough to skip the value, taking him in the 139th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick141
Rnd5
Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube at Round 5, Pick 5 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick182
Rnd6
Kitan Oladapo
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kitan Oladapo in pick 182. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick184
Rnd6
Cam Hart
Steal is underselling it; Cam Hart at pick No. 184 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick229
Rnd7
Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy at No. 229 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
