Draft Grade — Lions

Walker should have been long gone. The Lions pounced, and earned a B-.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Deone Walker got past him. The Lions do not have to explain a thing at slot 130.

They are betting Williams proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 JT Tuimoloau
In the 28th overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick60 Rnd2 Jack Sawyer
Nothing to complain about; Jack Sawyer went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick102 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
They paid sticker price for Jared Wilson in slot 102, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick130 Rnd4 Deone Walker
Somehow Deone Walker was still sitting there in the 130th pick, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick196 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 196 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick228 Rnd7 John Williams
They talked themselves into John Williams at Round 7, Pick 12, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick244 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Torricelli Simpkins III this early at pick 244. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
