Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Mendoza is the Jets' new face under center. Grade: B-.

The search is over. The Jets handed the keys to Fernando Mendoza, and the whole operation now runs on his development.

They are betting Payton proves the room right and everyone else wrong. On value alone, Wheatley makes the weekend a net positive.

The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 5th pick they get their guy under center for the next decade, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick32 Rnd1 Anthony Hill Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a three-down second-level presence, though they paid up to get him. More want than need.
Pick36 Rnd2 Kayden McDonald
Kayden McDonald at pick 36 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick44 Rnd2 Elijah Sarratt
A reach for Elijah Sarratt in the 44th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick105 Rnd4 Zakee Wheatley
They will replay Zakee Wheatley at No. 105 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick178 Rnd5 Patrick Payton
They reached into another round for Patrick Payton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick192 Rnd6 Cam Calhoun
Cam Calhoun in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick202 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Value said wait; Trey Zuhn III in slot 202 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick208 Rnd6 Raylen Wilson
They paid sticker price for Raylen Wilson in pick No. 208, and that is fine. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick237 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet at No. 237 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick253 Rnd7 Dasan McCullough
Dasan McCullough at pick 253 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick254 Rnd7 Kayin Lee
The board had cheaper options than Kayin Lee at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
