You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bengals did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

Every board in the league had Johnson lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Wilson.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
