Draft Grade — Saints
Overall

TradesB+
FutureB-
The Saints let Grant fall and pounced. Final grade: B+. Somebody in pick 112 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Saints sat still while Charles Grant, the No. 91 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the Webb reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
A reasonable price with a little left over, Abdul Carter in No. 9. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick40
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
Nice patience on Luther Burden III, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick71
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Nothing to complain about; Quinshon Judkins went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick93
Rnd3
Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers in pick 93 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick112
Rnd4
Charles Grant
Charles Grant in slot 112 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
A slide stopped in the 131st overall pick, with Joshua Farmer worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick184
Rnd6
Clay Webb
They liked Clay Webb enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 8. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
