Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA FutureB-
The Lions cashed the board's mistake on Wilson: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Payton Wilson had no business being available in Round 3, Pick 29, and the Lions did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick37 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at No. 37 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick65 Rnd3 Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier in pick No. 65 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick73 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Roman Wilson. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick92 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
You do not let a linebacker like Payton Wilson reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick106 Rnd4 Max Melton
They paid sticker price for Max Melton in the 106th overall pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick139 Rnd5 Cam Hart
Cam Hart at pick 139 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick163 Rnd5 Jaylen Wright
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylen Wright at the 163rd pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick165 Rnd5 Justin Rogers
No edge and no loss on Justin Rogers in Round 5, Pick 29; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick207 Rnd6 Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor slipping to the Round 6 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick247 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
By-the-book stuff, Steele Chambers at the 247th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
