Larceny in the Round 4 slot lands the Jets a B, Taaffe and all. The rest of the league will want that one back. Michael Taaffe tumbling to the Jets in the 103rd overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. Allar has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
David Bailey
In the 2nd overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick16
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In slot 16 they get the heartbeat of the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick33
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
They read the board right and Olaivavega Ioane was the payoff at No. 33. It fills a real need, too.
Pick44
Rnd2
Denzel Boston
Denzel Boston at Round 2, Pick 12 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick103
Rnd4
Michael Taaffe
Taking Michael Taaffe in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick140
Rnd4
Drew Allar
They liked Drew Allar enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 140. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick179
Rnd5
Bryce Boettcher
Good price on Bryce Boettcher in pick 179, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick228
Rnd7
Kaelon Black
A slide stopped in the 228th pick, with Kaelon Black worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick242
Rnd7
John Michael Gyllenborg
The board had John Michael Gyllenborg higher than pick 242, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
