Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
The Steelers robbed the room for Williams. Final grade: B.

Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Miyan Williams, the No. 204 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
Dallas Turner at slot 30 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick53 Rnd2 Josh Newton
Josh Newton in pick No. 53 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick58 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick84 Rnd3 Junior Colson
A slide stopped in the 84th pick, with Junior Colson worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick93 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
No drama and no debate, Zak Zinter went about where he belonged in the 93rd overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick119 Rnd4 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick120 Rnd4 Marist Liufau
Somehow Marist Liufau was still sitting there in pick 120, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick167 Rnd5 LaDarius Henderson
Good price on LaDarius Henderson in Round 5, Pick 31, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick198 Rnd6 Chau Smith-Wade
They barely believed it either: Chau Smith-Wade still on the board at the Round 6 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick241 Rnd7 Miyan Williams
They will replay Miyan Williams at No. 241 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
