Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Lachey: D.

The Bears lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Every board in the league had Ratledge lower, and that gap is the story.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
They did well to land Tyler Booker in pick 39, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick45 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Watts at the 45th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick55 Rnd2 Deone Walker
Deone Walker at slot 55 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick58 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
A conviction pick on Tate Ratledge at Round 2, Pick 26 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick72 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
A clean, defensible pick in the 72nd pick with a little surplus value in Quinshon Judkins. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick86 Rnd3 Jake Majors
They went early on Jake Majors in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick89 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
The board fumbled Alfred Collins all the way to the 89th overall pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick123 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at No. 123 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147 Rnd5 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II slipping to Round 5, Pick 10 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick193 Rnd6 Jonah Monheim
They read the board right and Jonah Monheim was the payoff at slot 193. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick232 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 232 is the definition of value, full stop. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick233 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne in pick 233 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick240 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Steal is underselling it; Jack Kiser at the 240th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
