Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB- TradesB+ FutureA+
The Colts cashed the board's mistake on Mondon Jr.: B+.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Smael Mondon Jr. tumbling to the Colts in pick No. 150 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.

The Cornelius pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Mukuba pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at wide receiver, quarterback and other spots.

That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Steal is underselling it; Malaki Starks at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick49 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
A tidy little value on Tyler Warren in Round 2, Pick 17, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Deone Walker
Deone Walker in No. 58 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick60 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at pick No. 60 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick70 Rnd3 Ajani Cornelius
A wild overpay on Ajani Cornelius in the 70th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick78 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
A curious use of the 78th overall pick. Wide receiver, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Andrew Mukuba did not.
Pick91 Rnd3 Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson at pick 91 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick93 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at slot 93 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick97 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
Somehow TreVeyon Henderson was still sitting there in No. 97, and they pounced on premier running back value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick98 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
They took Mason Taylor at par in slot 98, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick117 Rnd4 Azareye'h Thomas
A surprising call. With wide receiver, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 117 on Azareye'h Thomas, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick150 Rnd5 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at Round 5, Pick 13 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
