Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA- FutureA+
The Commanders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a A-.

The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

However the rest shakes out, Wilson at that price is a win they earned. The cost of the Jackson reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

The Budda Baker deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Bottom line, with Jayden Daniels leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick35 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Value with a capital V on Brian Thomas Jr. in No. 35, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick36 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
They took Ja'Tavion Sanders at par in slot 36, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick40 Rnd2 Darius Robinson
No drama and no debate, Darius Robinson went about where he belonged in the 40th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick67 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
Good price on Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 67, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick78 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick100 Rnd3 Javon Solomon
They paid a round early for Javon Solomon in the 100th overall pick, more than the board wanted. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick117 Rnd4 Maason Smith
Fair-plus on Maason Smith, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick136 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick139 Rnd5 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at pick 139 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick173 Rnd5 Layden Robinson
A straight-up fair deal on Layden Robinson at the 173rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick222 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
No edge and no loss on Frank Gore Jr. in No. 222; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick252 Rnd7 Tarheeb Still
Tarheeb Still slipping to pick No. 252 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
