Draft Grade — Browns

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Browns. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Browns spent the 107th pick on Vincent Anthony Jr., a name the board had a full 74 spots lower. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Tiernan at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
Caleb Downs at No. 1 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick25
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In the 25th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33
Rnd2
Fernando Mendoza
A reasonable price with a little left over, Fernando Mendoza in slot 33. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick57
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at Round 2, Pick 25 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick71
Rnd3
Aaron Graves
A reach on Aaron Graves in pick No. 71; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick101
Rnd3
Keith Abney II
A straight-up fair deal on Keith Abney II at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick107
Rnd4
Vincent Anthony Jr.
Vincent Anthony Jr. at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick134
Rnd4
Caleb Tiernan
They will replay Caleb Tiernan at pick No. 134 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick140
Rnd5
Evan Stewart
Fair-plus on Evan Stewart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147
Rnd5
Bray Hubbard
The board had Bray Hubbard higher than pick 147, and the safety fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jaishawn Barham
By-the-book stuff, Jaishawn Barham at No. 214 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick228
Rnd7
Micah Morris
Micah Morris in the 228th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
