Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesA+
FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Buccaneers for Washington: B. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Buccaneers watched Tahj Washington slide 56 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. If Eboigbe pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Buccaneers had louder needs to answer first.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick31
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
They paid up for Tyler Nubin at the 31st pick when waiting would have done the job. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick68
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
They paid sticker price for Mike Sainristil in Round 3, Pick 4, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick101
Rnd4
Blake Corum
Blake Corum in pick 101 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick103
Rnd4
Bucky Irving
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bucky Irving in No. 103. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick125
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in slot 125 leaves interior defensive lineman, tight end and other spots for later.
Pick130
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
A big swing on Justin Eboigbe at pick No. 130, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick156
Rnd5
Marist Liufau
A conviction pick on Marist Liufau at the 156th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick206
Rnd6
Isaiah Williams
Isaiah Williams at pick 206 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at the 220th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick243
Rnd7
Tahj Washington
Tahj Washington in slot 243 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick246
Rnd7
Ryan Watts
Ryan Watts in pick No. 246 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
