Draft Grade — Lions
Overall

ValueB-

FutureB
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Lions to a D. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Lions shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If Zinter pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Lions paired the rookies with proven help, Tyler Linderbaum leading the way.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Nate Wiggins
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick61
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at pick No. 61 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick73
Rnd3
Kamren Kinchens
The board had Kamren Kinchens higher than the 73rd pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick87
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zak Zinter this early at slot 87. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick201
Rnd6
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in the 201st overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick205
Rnd6
Evan Williams
A reach on Evan Williams in pick 205; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249
Rnd7
LaDarius Henderson
No edge and no loss on LaDarius Henderson in Round 7, Pick 29; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
