FutureA+
The Giants bled value on every deal, hence the C+. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Francisco Mauigoa at Round 6, Pick 37, a reach of 75 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The Gabriel value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Giants paired the rookies with proven help, Spencer Brown leading the way.
Hit on Dillon Gabriel and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick86
Rnd3
Dillon Gabriel
Taking Dillon Gabriel in pick No. 86 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick95
Rnd3
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in the 95th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad in the 110th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick134
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at No. 134 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jaishawn Barham
Jaishawn Barham at pick 154 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick212
Rnd6
Francisco Mauigoa
They talked themselves into Francisco Mauigoa at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick218
Rnd7
Marcus Mbow
They liked Marcus Mbow enough to skip the value, taking him in the 218th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick226
Rnd7
Kyren Lacy
Kyren Lacy is a better player than Round 7, Pick 12 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick239
Rnd7
Xavier Truss
A tidy little value on Xavier Truss in pick 239, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick250
Rnd7
Denver Harris
Denver Harris in No. 250 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
