Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
D
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Chiefs bled value on every deal, hence the D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Chiefs did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
The McKinney pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The McKinney pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and linebacker.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That Lance pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Keldric Faulk
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a double-digit-sack hope. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick19
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In No. 19 they get an every-down engine for the run game at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at pick No. 40 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick41
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
A reach on Brandon Cisse in slot 41; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick74
Rnd3
A'Mauri Washington
They let A'Mauri Washington come to them and pounced at the 74th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick109
Rnd4
DJ McKinney
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 109 on DJ McKinney with quarterback and linebacker unsolved.
Pick146
Rnd5
Bryce Lance
Somehow Bryce Lance was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor slid further than he should have, and the 176th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
