Tino55 DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Maye is the plan now, and the Patriots grade out a B-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The cost of the Goncalves reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Hadden at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In No. 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Ladd McConkey
They took Ladd McConkey at par in slot 34, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick68
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker in pick No. 68 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
They paid up for Matt Goncalves at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick137
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
They let Ben Sinnott come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 1. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick180
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden at pick 180 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick193
Rnd6
Trente Jones
Trente Jones in the 193rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick231
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in the 231st overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
