Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA
The Commanders answered their biggest question with Williams. Grade: D+.

The Commanders torched the value chart for Cedric Gray, taking him 34 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here.

That Torrence pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick No. 27 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan at slot 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick40 Rnd2 Darius Robinson
They paid sticker price for Darius Robinson in the 40th pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67 Rnd3 T.J. Tampa
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with T.J. Tampa worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick78 Rnd3 Michael Hall Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Michael Hall Jr. at pick 78 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick79 Rnd3 Cedric Gray
They reached a country mile for Cedric Gray at pick No. 79, and the board is aghast. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick100 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
Nice patience on Dominick Puni, who had no business lasting to pick 100. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
They read the board right and Brenden Rice was the payoff at the 109th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick139 Rnd5 Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at Round 5, Pick 3 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick143 Rnd5 Xavier Thomas
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Xavier Thomas. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick152 Rnd5 Kitan Oladapo
No drama and no debate, Kitan Oladapo went about where he belonged in No. 152. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick187 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in slot 187 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick222 Rnd7 Ro Torrence
Ro Torrence at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
