FutureB-
Grand theft in pick No. 253: the Vikings steal Moss and grade out a B+. You could see the war room lean forward. Miller Moss at pick 253 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Rivers pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman still on the board. The Leigh pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerfielder for the defense, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
A slide stopped in pick 44, with Anthony Hill Jr. worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick75
Rnd3
Connor Lew
They robbed the room for Connor Lew here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick97
Rnd3
Keith Abney II
Keith Abney II at No. 97 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick113
Rnd4
Chandler Rivers
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Chandler Rivers adds a cornerback and leaves edge rusher and interior defensive lineman untouched.
Pick161
Rnd5
Justin Joly
Justin Joly slipping to slot 161 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick167
Rnd5
Jaden Greathouse
They did well to land Jaden Greathouse in pick No. 167, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. in Round 6, Pick 17 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick226
Rnd7
Quinten Joyner
Quinten Joyner in the 226th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick242
Rnd7
Tristan Leigh
They liked Tristan Leigh enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 7, Pick 27. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick253
Rnd7
Miller Moss
Taking Miller Moss in the 253rd pick is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
