FutureB+
The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Walker: B. The 49ers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Devontez Walker, the No. 178 name on the board, in the Round 6 slot.
They will need Davis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick41
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
They paid sticker price for Amarius Mims in pick No. 41, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick58
Rnd2
Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus at the Round 2 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick90
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk in slot 90 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick98
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kiran Amegadjie. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick109
Rnd4
Roman Wilson
No drama and no debate, Roman Wilson went about where he belonged in the 109th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick126
Rnd4
Dorian Singer
Dorian Singer slid further than he should have, and pick 126 is lovely value for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jordan Burch
Good price on Jordan Burch in the 177th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick204
Rnd6
Caden Prieskorn
Caden Prieskorn in Round 6, Pick 29 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick213
Rnd6
Devontez Walker
Circle this one: Devontez Walker at pick No. 213 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick215
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Fair-plus on Dwight McGlothern, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick247
Rnd7
Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis at pick 247 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
