Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
Bassa should have been long gone. The Browns pounced, and earned a B+.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jeffrey Bassa had no business being available in pick 165, and the Browns did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

Reaching for Colby left real value on the table behind him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

The Browns clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. They went 9 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Nice patience on Kenneth Grant, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick67 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
Good price on Demetrius Knight Jr. in pick No. 67, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick90 Rnd3 Cam Skattebo
A conviction pick on Cam Skattebo at slot 90 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick94 Rnd3 Savion Williams
Savion Williams in the 94th pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick103 Rnd4 Mason Taylor
A tight end of that caliber at pick 103 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick110 Rnd4 Kyle McCord
The board had cheaper options than Kyle McCord at the 110th overall pick, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jordan James
They liked Jordan James enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 113. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick124 Rnd4 Jack Nelson
No edge and no loss on Jack Nelson in pick 124; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick152 Rnd5 Connor Colby
They reached into another round for Connor Colby, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick165 Rnd5 Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa in slot 165 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick181 Rnd6 Mitchell Evans
Mitchell Evans in pick No. 181 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick191 Rnd6 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant at No. 191 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick194 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at Round 6, Pick 16 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick215 Rnd6 Ricky White III
A quiet steal in the 215th pick: Ricky White III for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick234 Rnd7 Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks slipping to the 234th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
