Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
Watts should have been long gone. The Commanders pounced, and earned a B+.

Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Hawes reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick61 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Somehow Xavier Watts was still sitting there in No. 61, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick63 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in pick No. 63 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick66 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
Good price on Maxwell Hairston in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick95 Rnd3 Savion Williams
Savion Williams in Round 3, Pick 31 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick96 Rnd3 Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe at the 96th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick104 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander is a better player than slot 104 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick109 Rnd4 Dylan Fairchild
A tidy little value on Dylan Fairchild in Round 4, Pick 7, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
The board fumbled Terrance Ferguson all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick154 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten in pick 154 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick169 Rnd5 Logan Brown
Logan Brown in No. 169 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick193 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
No drama and no debate, Jaylen Reed went about where he belonged in the 193rd pick. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick205 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
By-the-book stuff, Jay Higgins at slot 205 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick226 Rnd7 Karene Reid
Nice patience on Karene Reid, who had no business lasting to the 226th overall pick. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick236 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
They paid sticker price for Isaac TeSlaa in pick No. 236, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick241 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
They took Bilhal Kone at par in pick 241, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick245 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson in the 245th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick251 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
They paid a round early for Jackson Hawes in Round 7, Pick 35, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
