The Commanders robbed the room for Johnson. Final grade: D+. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Commanders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
The cost of the Hawes reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They banked enough surplus on Johnson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
