Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
Larceny in the Round 5 slot lands the Jaguars a B, Phillips and all.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jordan Phillips had no business being available in the 143rd overall pick, and the Jaguars did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Harris pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at the 36th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick58 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 26, where Xavier Watts graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick70 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in No. 70 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick88 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaiah Bond at pick 88. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick106 Rnd4 Ozzy Trapilo
Somehow Ozzy Trapilo was still sitting there in pick No. 106, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
They robbed the room for Jared Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick143 Rnd5 Jordan Phillips
Steal is underselling it; Jordan Phillips at slot 143 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick184 Rnd6 Dorian Strong
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Dorian Strong in pick No. 184, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196 Rnd6 Jermari Harris
A wild overpay on Jermari Harris in pick 196, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
