Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the 49ers.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Zane Durant, 38 picks early at the 138th pick.

The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They banked enough surplus on Everette to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor in slot 31 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick59 Rnd2 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at pick 59 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick92 Rnd3 Daylen Everette
Value with a capital V on Daylen Everette in Round 3, Pick 28, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick95 Rnd3 Keylan Rutledge
They paid a round early for Keylan Rutledge in the 95th pick, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick125 Rnd4 Bud Clark
They paid sticker price for Bud Clark in the 125th overall pick, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick127 Rnd4 Chris McClellan
No edge and no loss on Chris McClellan in No. 127; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128 Rnd4 Eric Rivers
Eric Rivers at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick131 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
The board had Parker Brailsford higher than pick No. 131, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133 Rnd4 Kage Casey
They liked Kage Casey enough to skip the value, taking him in the 133rd overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Zane Durant
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zane Durant this early at Round 4, Pick 38. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick171 Rnd5 Lander Barton
A reach on Lander Barton in the 171st pick; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
