NEAC DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers let Nubin fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. Hard to follow the map here. The Packers bypassed quarterback, wide receiver and other spots to take Cedric Gray at pick 125, a spot they had covered.
On value alone, Nubin makes the weekend a net positive. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Bortolini lower, and that gap is the story.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
In the 25th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value.
Pick41
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 41, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick58
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin at No. 58 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick88
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
No edge and no loss on Marshawn Kneeland in the 88th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick91
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick125
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
A surprising call. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 25 on Cedric Gray, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick168
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
The board had Kitan Oladapo higher than slot 168, and the safety fell to them anyway. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick201
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at No. 201 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick219
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
They paid sticker price for Michael Barrett in the 219th overall pick, and that is fine. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick245
Rnd7
Josh Wallace
Josh Wallace at slot 245 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick255
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
Value with a capital V on Kimani Vidal in the 255th pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
