Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B
ValueB NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Saints: B.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Saints did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to offensive lineman, which was the need that mattered most. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The Benson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will need Allar to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Mansoor Delane
In pick No. 8 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick42 Rnd2 Romello Height
Fair-plus on Romello Height, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick73 Rnd3 Germie Bernard
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 9: Germie Bernard for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick132 Rnd4 Chris McClellan
They did well to land Chris McClellan in pick 132, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick136 Rnd4 Drew Allar
Drew Allar at slot 136 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick150 Rnd5 Malik Benson
The board had Malik Benson higher than the 150th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick170 Rnd5 J'Mari Taylor
They paid sticker price for J'Mari Taylor in the 170th overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick188 Rnd6 Dae'Quan Wright
Dae'Quan Wright in No. 188 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick215 Rnd6 Toriano Pride Jr.
Value with a capital V on Toriano Pride Jr. in Round 6, Pick 36, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
