The steal of the weekend belongs to the Commanders and Montgomery: B-. Somebody in Round 6, Pick 17 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Tyren Montgomery, the No. 169 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Reaching for Jatta left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value. More want than need.
Pick71
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch at pick 71 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick145
Rnd5
Nadame Tucker
A real head-scratcher, Nadame Tucker in Round 5, Pick 7 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick185
Rnd6
Kaleb Elarms-Orr
Kaleb Elarms-Orr at No. 185 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick196
Rnd6
Tyren Montgomery
Tyren Montgomery in the 196th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223
Rnd7
Isaiah Jatta
A wild overpay on Isaiah Jatta in slot 223, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
