JCVH60 DRAFTING FOR THELions

Draft Grade — Lions
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Lions a B. Some picks age like wine; Mason McCormick at the Round 4 slot will need to, sitting 30 spots clear of his grade. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Landing Barrett that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
Good price on Cooper DeJean in pick 29, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick61
Rnd2
Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall at Round 2, Pick 29 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick73
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
No drama and no debate, Marshawn Kneeland went about where he belonged in slot 73. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick116
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
Value said wait; Mason McCormick in No. 116 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick205
Rnd6
Dominique Hampton
Dominique Hampton at the 205th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick249
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at the 249th overall pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
