Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B

FutureB-
Skattebo should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Cam Skattebo got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at the 148th pick.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Tuimoloau pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In pick No. 10 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Steal is underselling it; Kenneth Grant at No. 39 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick41
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau in the 41st pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick72
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. at slot 72 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick148
Rnd5
Cam Skattebo
Taking Cam Skattebo in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick233
Rnd7
Kyle Williams
They barely believed it either: Kyle Williams still on the board at the 233rd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick240
Rnd7
Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker in pick 240 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
