Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureD-
The Cowboys bled value on every deal, hence the C. The Cowboys lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. For now it grades a C, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had Watson lower, and that gap is the story.
On value alone, Judkins makes the weekend a net positive. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In the 18th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at pick No. 44 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick50
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
They let T.J. Sanders come to them and pounced at No. 50. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick52
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
The board had Xavier Watts higher than Round 2, Pick 20, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick76
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at slot 76 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick82
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins is a better player than the 82nd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick137
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Hollin Pierce. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They paid a round early for Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the Round 5 slot, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick171
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
They liked JJ Pegues enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 171. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick172
Rnd5
Clay Webb
Clay Webb at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick204
Rnd6
Desmond Watson
Desmond Watson at No. 204 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick211
Rnd6
Simeon Barrow Jr.
Simeon Barrow Jr. in slot 211 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
