Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB-

FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Bears: B. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Mason Reiger at pick 89 is 59 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Hill Jr. at that price is a win they earned.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In No. 29 they get a difference-maker at receiver, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick57
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
Taking Anthony Hill Jr. in pick No. 57 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick65
Rnd3
Christen Miller
They did well to land Christen Miller in Round 3, Pick 1, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick74
Rnd3
Mike Washington Jr.
No edge and no loss on Mike Washington Jr. in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89
Rnd3
Mason Reiger
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mason Reiger well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick129
Rnd4
Max Llewellyn
Value said wait; Max Llewellyn in slot 129 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick143
Rnd5
Jakobe Thomas
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jakobe Thomas. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick183
Rnd6
VJ Payne
A premium they did not need to pay, VJ Payne a notch or two before his time. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick239
Rnd7
Thaddeus Dixon
Value with a capital V on Thaddeus Dixon in the Round 7 slot, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick241
Rnd7
Jack Kelly
Jack Kelly in Round 7, Pick 25 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
