Mahogany should have been long gone. The Seahawks pounced, and earned a B-. You build a draft on nights like this. Christian Mahogany had no business being available in the Round 4 slot, and the Seahawks did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while edge rusher went begging. Milton III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
Jer'Zhan Newton at the 16th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick81
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
A tidy little value on Payton Wilson in slot 81, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick82
Rnd3
Maason Smith
A surprising call. With edge rusher still to address, they spent pick No. 82 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick117
Rnd4
Christian Mahogany
Taking Christian Mahogany in No. 117 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick129
Rnd4
Joe Milton III
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Joe Milton III. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick154
Rnd5
Cade Stover
Cade Stover at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick194
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray in Round 6, Pick 19 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick207
Rnd6
Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis at the 207th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick236
Rnd7
Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo slid further than he should have, and pick No. 236 is lovely value for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
